The myriad ways I spend my time
I know a photographer doing a cool project...portraits of people expressing why they do what they do.
For me, I imagine what the world would be like if people lived their dreams, if they expressed their own unique genius. I do what I can to create the space, to nudge along, to invite, to embrace.
As you may have already noticed, my life is full of adventure, creation, and lots of work. Here are some blips about some of the work and projects that fills my days...
I am a co-founder and manager of an internet software company - The Geek Gene, where we develop and host web sites and other custom software development. We've been developing Congo-DB, a contextually grouped database that supports uber-flexibile and distributed data. We are using Congo and Nango to create SourceTree Commons, an opensource project repository and geek collaboration community.
At this time, I am hard at work as the Executive Director of the Mile High Business Alliance, a non-profit organization devoted to supporting and promoting Denver's locally-owned businesses. This is the culmination of years of inquiry into how we can develop structures that foster community-based problem solving, collaboration, and environmental and social justice.
I am a commissioner for the City of Lakewood's Commission for an Inclusive Community, and serve on the business committee.
To help you get to know me, a handful of friends, colleagues and collaborators have offered a few words about me:

"Mickki's excitement about shaping the future is infectious." - Melissa Gutierrez, friend
“Count on Mickki to get it done! She is extremely capable and creative, brim-full of energy as she dedicates herself to whatever purpose is at hand. Mickki says it like it is, but does so with a sense of playfulness and humor that often lightens things up.” - John Connell, President, Regional Economic Development Initiative
“Mickki is a dynamo, full of energy and great ideas, and the organization skills to get things done. “Mickki is an active go-getter always anxious to get the job done and find the next result to crank out. She has deep passion and commitment which she bring to bear in juggling a vast array of details. And a secret tip... “I know Mickki as an energetic, innovative, and informed director of an organization working in the same aspect of economic development that our organization does; the Mile High Business Alliance is a member of BALLE. "If you've ever worked with someone you could trust with your presentation, your e-mail inbox, and your baby boy or girl all at the same time, you probably worked with Mickki Langston. I have worked with her, and it would be wishful thinking if I claimed to know many more like her. A natural networker with an ear for the truth, an eye for value, and a heart for stewardship, Mickki's got a plan for just about any situation, and that plan involves good old fashioned hard work, a healthy dash of critical thinking, and some genuine friendliness for good measure. And during the time that we worked together side by side, it was easy at the end of each day for me to thank her before saying goodnight." - Jody Reale, writer, colleague and friend
"Mickki is energetic and positive, and puts in the effort that supports networking to happen." - John Abbe, computer geek and friend

I also have the extraordinary privilege to spend Monday mornings with Jasper, a beautiful little boy with a magical perspective. Every time I see him, he has more and more to say.
Other projects include: building an ecovillage, working in my garden, and finding more and more ways to participate in my tribe.
